01Aquaporins

Roots absorb water through microscopic gates.

Aquaporins are membrane proteins in plant roots responsible for water absorption. They take up water one molecule at a time — so the size of what arrives at the gate matters enormously.

02The problem

Ordinary water clumps into clusters too large to absorb.

Zoecore splits water clusters with a high-voltage electric field

Water molecules are dipolar and form strong hydrogen bonds, causing them to bond into clusters. Those clusters are too large for aquaporins to take up efficiently — so much of the water simply passes through the soil unused.
